September 28, 2005 - On September 28, 2005, the United States Postal Service issued a series of eleven stamps commemorating Jim Henson. In addition to a stamp featuring a photo of Jim, the stamps include pictures of beloved Muppet characters Kermit the Frog, Fozzie Bear, Sam the Eagle, Miss Piggy, Statler & Waldorf, the Swedish Chef, Animal, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew & Beaker, Rowlf the Dog, the Great Gonzo and Camilla the Chicken. They are available on a souvenir sheet featuring all eleven stamps, and rank number 20 in the top 25 most popular commemorative stamps of all time. A First Day of Issue Dedication Ceremony took place at the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles. On hand to dedicate the stamps were Brian Henson, Lisa Henson, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Anita Bizotto, the Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President for the Postal Service, and Dick Askin, the Chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. This event was followed by a similar event hosted by The Jim Henson Legacy and the Museum of Television and Radio in New York on October 6th.  The New York Stamp Dedication Ceremony included Jane, Heather and Cheryl Henson, as well as Al Gottesman, the President of The Jim Henson Legacy, and John Hargett, the New York Manager of Post Office Operations. Heather Henson designed a pictorial indicia cancellation specifically for the event.
